Who?

Why fit in when you were born to stand out? Dr. Seuss asked all the right questions before most of us spoke our first word. A fabled children’s author and colourful persona, Seuss created fascinating characters in rhyming books and helped teach children how to read in over 20 different languages. These books filled with colourful fantasy worlds with oddly shaped characters and tongue-twisting rhymes have seen Dr.Seuss immortalized by designating his 2nd March birthday as National Reading Day in the USA, honouring his contributions to literature and for brightening the lives of generations of children.

Why?

Open a Dr. Seuss book and you enter a world dizzy with colour and twisted rhymes. Thing one and thing two are more than just fictional fun characters: Dr. Seuss' genius is in his unique ability to speak directly to children's emerging intellect, helping them to develop their imaginations, and to improve their linguistic abilities and cognitive skills. With iconic characters such as The Cat in the Hat, Horton & The Grinch - Dr. Seuss’s tales are a familiar and happy memory of many people's childhoods.

Why we love them...

Although we can’t promise you green eggs and ham, like Dr. Seuss we believe in the importance of creating positive, memorable experiences for the next generation, and of developing the imagination as well as the intellect. Imagination and creation rhyme for a reason; join us in making BRIX a place where ideas blossom in fields of colourful energy.

Who?

To this day, the artist Andy Warhol is synonymous with Pop Art.

What do Marilyn Monroe, chicken noodle soup, and Brillo boxes have in common? They all have the magical touch of pop art that only Andy Warhol could pull off. He might have hated what Campbell's stands for- the nasty business of consumerism - but he loved warping dizzy colors and patterns, painting capitalism as a clown in the circus of economy. You may know celebrities. You may have seen advertisements. You may think you know artistic expression. But did you know that Andy Warhol and the Pop Art movement were the first to really combine these elements and bring them to a mainstream level? Andy Warhol delivered his brand of Pop Art to the world with a flashy, camp and catchy statement. He showed us that anyone can get and deserves their ‘15 minutes of fame’.

Why?

We wonder what kind of weirdos might have waltzed into the psychedelic madhouse Warhol called The Factory. Vagabonds, artists, and misfits to society all came to seek expression and validation. The Factory eventually acted as a meeting place for artists from the street level all the way up to the Hollywood level. Never underestimate a bunch of art kids.

Why we love them...

Warhol’s success is due to being obnoxiously unique. His life and his work left an indelible mark not only on the art world, but on the corporate world too. Forcing businesses to be more creative with their advertising, and to accept artistic expression into their marketing campaigns. Think of BRIX as a new Factory. A nonconformist’s utopia. Take a shot at expressing yourself! Meet inspiring people! Fulfill your desires!

Why?

A literally timeless piece called The Persistence of Memory lives as one of the most iconic pieces of fine art ever created. A captivating commentary on all of humanity’s perennial problems, explored through the medium of the Surreal.

Why we love them...

Who?

The original girl boss. Queen of natural swatches and basics, Bobbi Brown has seen over 3 decades of cosmetic industry triumphs. In 1992, she revolutionised cosmetics by revealing the first natural shades of foundation and lipstick ranges that could be applied to all skin tones. A household name for make-up users worldwide, this entrepreneurial genius not only founded her own line of beauty products but has since spent her late career using her knowledge to help others live a healthier lifestyle. Bobbi Brown is the name you put into the “who do you wanna be when you grow up” blank on a questionnaire.

Why?

Dusty sand. Chai brown. Light rose. Bobbi Brown is the master of natural glam. Bobbi Brown Cosmetics all started with a simple idea – natural looking makeup and lipstick that looked like, well, lips. She smashed stereotypes along the way to making it a reality. Bobbi herself has influenced many young women with her tact and class in media, having been nominated for several awards for humanitarian causes over her lifetime of philanthropy.

Why we love them...

Be the one to incite change! Bobbi was there for women who craved a less flashy look when they got ready in the morning. Who?

Bob Marley breached the cultural barriers that separate race and class and united them under One Love: Music. Close your eyes and listen to a Bob Marley song you’re transported to a peaceful beach where problems drift away on gentle ocean breezes...opening your eyes again you find a friend's extended hand holding a freshly lit joint. Widely hailed as a legend and for introducing the world to both Reggae music and the Rastafari religion, Marley's timeless melodies and protest songs alike form the soundtrack of a world of love and tolerance.

Why?

Although Bob Marley has passed, many can still feel him holding our hands and leading us towards a world of harmony. A face and a voice that’s instantly recognisable, Bob began his career in the 60s as the title part of Bob Marley and the Wailers but transcended his home nation of Jamaica when he went to the US, then the UK and then began selling out arenas. Promoting a message of unity and love with a unique songwriting style that borrowed from Rocksteady and Ska, Bob Marley still touches hearts worldwide to this day.

Why we love them…

“Money can’t buy life.” Those were Bob Marley’s last words. Something to live by. Using art to unite all peoples was the goal of Bob Marley, and he used his music as a platform to protest the discriminatory treatment and racism he faced his whole life. People around the world identify with his message of love and peace, as well as his fervent advocation for marijuana legalisation. At BRIX, we honour Marley's legacy by aspiring to bring travellers from around the world together, to see our differences as assets, not liabilities, and to celebrate shared values and ideals.

Who?

Irreverent, unconventional, and fearlessly provocative, Vivienne Westwood remained a cutting-edge figure in the world of style and culture until her death at the age of 81 in 2022. In the 70s, her Chelsea fashion boutique, SEX, dressed punk bands with her leather fetish and BDSM-inspired designs; Vivienne Westwood saw Punk music as "seeing if one could put a spoke in the system"- a disruptive, anti-establishment ideology consistent with Westwood's on fashion. Perhaps inspired by the name of her boutique, her then-boyfriend, Malcolm McLaren coined the Sex Pistols band name and subsequently managed them. Politically conscious, Westwood often made political statements through designs such as her 2005 "I AM NOT A TERRORIST" t-shirt sold to raise funds for the civil liberties organisation Liberty to raise awareness of the growing incidence of arbitrary arrests made in the name of fighting terror, and remained a friend and supporter of Julian Assange until her passing.

Why?

On TikTok you’re sure to see thousands of girls sporting the infamous orb pearl necklace. Vivienne Westwood is one of those people that have continued to influence culture through the years. Her iconic orb logo is a combination of royal British iconography and the rings of Saturn to represent the importance of the past, but also a nod to the future. With ripped jeans, slashed and hand written shirts and outward-facing seams, she showed it was okay to bear the scars of ‘working it out’ in life as it was in her fashion- and brought Punk to the mainstream, putting a halt to the demonisation of the young DIY enthusiasts.

Why we love them...

We can only hope that in our older ages we can sport bright orange hair and fishnet stockings like Vivienne did. The DIY spirit of Westwood’s clothing is something we should start adopting into our lives. At BRIX, we know that to make real change you have to show your process. The progress of Westwood’s designs over the decades have shown that she is a true guru when it comes to both staying relevant, and shocking the system. Vivienne will never go out of style.

Who?

Far removed from stuffy record labels, Gorillaz invites you to a never ending party where chaos reigns supreme.  As the ingenious first-ever ‘Virtual’ band born in the ‘90s, Damon Albarn, lead singer of iconic band Blur and Jamie Hewlett, the artist responsible for the cult comic Tank Girl; together they forever revolutionised Hip-Hop, Pop & Electronic music with their animated protagonists 2-D, Murdoc, Russel & Noodle.

Why?

With so many sounds perfectly curated into one album, the Gorillaz have amassed a cult following lasting over 20 years. Each track released by the capricious band exhibits a sense of pure joy and irreverence. They’ve come a long way since then, collaborating with artists of all genres, elevating unknown talent and giving them a platform to connect with more fans, thus diversifying their own audience.

Why we love them...
